Reverend Damaris Walker, Esq.

Reverend Damaris Yimeen Walker, Esquire was born and raised in North Philadelphia where he still resides.

Reverend Walker sensed the call to the ministry at a young age.  He could often be found sharing the gospel with people in the neighborhood, especially his brothers’ friends and those visiting his family’s home.  In 2001, Reverend Walker received his license to preach the Gospel and was ordained in 2002.

Reverend Walker most recently served as an Associate Minister at Salem Baptist Church.  As an associate minister at Salem, he assisted Pastor Marshall Paul Hughes Mitchell in brainstorming strategies to modernize the Christian Education Ministry.  Reverend Walker also worked with the youth minister at Salem to develop a robust youth ministry and institute.

Before Salem, Reverend Walker was an Associate Minister at Rising Sun Baptist Church in South Philadelphia. While at Rising Sun, he supported the pastor as worship leader during Sunday morning worship services; preached Third and Fifth Sundays; and taught the weekly Bible Study. Attendance at Bible Study increased during his tenure.

Prior to joining Rising Sun, Damaris was the pastor of a missionary Baptist church in North Philadelphia for eight years. He was the youngest pastor in the City at that time, and was featured in a number of publications, including the Philadelphia Daily News, Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Weekly, Philadelphia Magazine, and the Girard Home News. During his pastorate, he instituted a new members class, Bible breakfast, and a tutoring and mentoring program in partnership with local colleges and universities.  He also increased church membership and finances.

Damaris holds a bachelor’s degree in Religion and English from Dartmouth College, where he graduated with the highest honors and in the top 5% of his class.  Damaris was a James O. Freedman Presidential Scholar and Rufus Choate Scholar at Dartmouth.  His senior thesis “Meeting the Demands of Faith and Body” was awarded the Pamela Joyner Prize in African American Studies.  Reverend Walker earned his law degree from the number one ranked Yale Law School.

Damaris practiced law at a global law firm in New York City upon graduation from Yale. He returned to Philadelphia to pursue his passion of real estate development in the community where he was raised. He presently serves as a real estate attorney at a Philadelphia law firm. In addition, Reverend Walker is the CEO of DYW Development Company where he oversees acquisition and development of single- and multi-family residences. His company has successfully developed and brought to market over 40 properties.

On January 20, 2019, Reverend Walker accepted the call to serve as the seventh pastor of Miller Memorial Baptist Church.  Miller Memorial has a rich history of decorating the minds of young people and providing them with a strong faith foundation.  Reverend Walker endeavors to build on Miller Memorial’s rich past and lead the church in imagining, preparing for, and living the future of faith.
